Information about the Program

Bunnings Safer Places is a program designed to fund projects that help empower people to feel safe and secure in their community.
 
$2 from every Arlo, Eufy, Orion, Reolink and Swann security camera or video doorbell sold at Bunnings will go towards community grants that facilitate community safety. A list of eligible security cameras or video doorbells can be found here. The program runs from 1 March 2026 for one year, unless extended.
 
The program also seeks to equip everyday Australians with the tools, knowledge, expert advice and connections to help make their homes and neighbourhoods safer.
It’s all about helping households and communities to find new ways to come together and take simple, practical steps that make a real difference.
 
The program is proudly delivered with the support of Bunnings and home security suppliers Arlo, Eufy, Orion, Reolink and Swann.

Grants Program

The Safer Places grants are designed to support community‑led initiatives that help people feel safer and more secure in the places they live, work and gather. The program focuses on practical, place‑based solutions that aim to prevent crime, improve safety and strengthen community connection.

Grant applications are assessed by an independent Advisory Group made up of experts in community safety, crime prevention, urban design and related fields to ensure selected projects are evidence-based and can contribute to the creation of safer places. While the program is intended to support projects that foster community safety, Bunnings does not participate in or manage projects undertaken by grant recipients.

Type of projects funded

The grants are for eligible applicants seeking funding for projects that:

  • Modify the physical environment to reduce opportunities for crime and/or improve safety in a specific space
  • Provide positive public safety outcomes and/or contribute to improving social cohesion.
  • Set up systems or technology to create better visibility of crime (e.g. interactive crime dashboards, safety apps).
  • Support public campaigns to educate or engage communities on a specific local safety issue.

Who can apply

Eligible applicants include community groups, not‑for‑profit organisations, incorporated associations with an ABN, small businesses where projects provide wider community benefit, academic institutions, agricultural co‑operatives and incorporated Aboriginal organisations. Newly formed or informal community groups may also apply under an auspicing arrangement with a council.

Grant rounds

Two rounds of grants will be offered in 2026:

  • Round one (open now, until 25 September) – Available to applicants in Victoria only. This comprises 18 small grants (valued at up to $5,000 each) and five large grants (valued at up to $30,000 each).

  • Round two (opening later this year) – Available to applicants in all Australian states and territories

How to apply

To apply, please complete the digital application form hosted on the SmartyGrants platform.

Applicants are kindly asked to review the crime prevention approaches and principles set out in the Program Fact Sheet when completing the application. Please indicate which crime prevention approach(es) your initiative aligns to and give consideration to the principles. The Program Fact Sheet is available here.

Helping police help communities

Bunnings supports the Safer Places Network, a national platform that allows residents and businesses to register their security cameras to assist police investigations when needed to solve crimes faster. Members also receive alerts about local crime, helping them stay safe.
