Tradie using the Dewalt air extractor tool on his worksite

Dead set you’re surrounded by dust and debris on your worksite every day.
Let this powerful bit of kit – the DeWalt 38L High Performance M-Class Dust Extractor – make the clean-up a bit less hectic when it comes to knock-off time. This tool review tells you everything you need to know.

Product

DeWalt 38L High Performance M-Class Dust Extractor (DWV905M-XE)

Is the DeWalt Dust Extractor any good?

Pro: It has super powerful suction and is suitable for everything from chunks of workplace debris to fine concrete or wood dust. The self-cleaning filters are a handy bonus.

Con: We found this a little bulkier than some portable models, so best to have a bit of space when you’re working with it.

Use it for…

The DeWalt M-Class Dust Extractor is ideal for both larger chips of cutting debris to finer dust particles – wet or dry – making it perfect for carpenters, plumbers, electricians, general builders or just anyone who drills, grinds, sands or works with any material, really… which is pretty much every tradie on a modern building site.

This machine will help keep your work surface dust-free, your expensive tools cleaner and your worksite safer (more on that later). Plus, a once-over the ‘ol dusty work clothes before heading for a steak at the pub at the end of a long day and you’re sorted.

How it works

Connect the tool you plan to use, such as a plane, sander or drill and ensure the extractor is plugged into a suitable outlet. Then, from the second you switch on your power tool, the extractor kicks in to remove all the dust.

The filter is self-cleaning every 30 seconds to reduce any clogging so that you can keep working with constant air flow and, should there be a drop in performance, an audible alarm will sound. With a higher capacity than many battery-powered portables, this allows for more time on the tools and less time changing out full dust bags. Sweet!

What’s new on this model of the DeWalt Dust Extractor?

A more powerful brushed motor and larger diameter hose means a 10 per cent greater airflow and 19 per cent more pressure compared with the DWV902M.

Why it should be part of your tradie kit

1. Safety: In an environment where the dangers of dust are well known, it just makes sense to minimise any debris you’re sending into the air. This 38-litre extractor generates an air flow of 4500 litres per minute, with M-Class HEPA filters that make sure up to 99.9% of airborne debris (.3 microns) is removed. It’s simply a better way to work and keep yourself and those around you safer.

2. Convenience: Anyone who uses power tools knows just how annoying it is to finish a job, then spend just as much time cleaning up as it did to do the actual work. A good extractor like this with effective filters can mean the difference between emptying a bag at the end of the day or spending hours sweeping, blowing and vacuuming every crevice of the worksite.
